W. S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan wrote 14 operettas between 1871 and 1896 and all are still performed to this day, the comic situations and clever dialogue still being as relevant today as they were in Victorian times, and the tunes as popular as ever. The D’Oyly Carte Opera Company performed these 14 operas nearly 5,000 times in Britain, Paris and New York between 1871 and 1896 and continued to repeat them at the Savoy Theatre in London and elsewhere until well into the last Century.

Bath Gilbert & Sullivan Society was formed 72 years ago and to is one of the busiest in the City. Every Spring, they perform concerts, plays and Old Time Musical Hall Nights, culminating in a fully-costumed performance of one of the operas at the end of May, followed by several charity concerts in June & July and a performance of another opera in November.

Whilst most of their productions take place at the Wroughton Theatre in Bath, they have performed operas and concerts in eight other Wessex locations, including Somerton and Chiselborough.

They have put on 33 fully costumed productions since 1986 and sung 26 more in concert format, with the Mikado, Yeoman of the Guard, Pirates of Penzance, Ruddigore and The Gondoliers their most recent productions.

Tickets will be £12 on the door or £10 in advance from Martock News and Gallery, by email from hckmlewia@talktalk.net or by phoning 01935 822706.
