Martock library-hub

Working in partnership, Somerset County Council and Martock Parish Council are planning to enhance the Library to become an exciting new information and services hub for Martock.

As well as offering a library service, it is intended to enhance the building to provide:

  • a more flexible use of space, including improved facilities for adults and children, better access to free IT, social areas and a disabled toilet
  • a comprehensive resident and visitor information service, with the existing Information Centre moving from the Market House to the Library
  • as part of the Our Place Martock project, office space for the Parish Council's community services staff, providing one to one accessibility for dealing with resident needs
  • library staff and volunteers on hand to provide friendly help and advice
  • facilities for services provided more locally, including adult social care, children's services and citizens' advice
  • adaptable space so that the building can be used for meetings, groups and community events outside of library opening hours.

The next step is the preparation of a Business Case for County Council approval by the end of September 2016. Subject to that approval and after completion of the necessary internal alterations, the new hub will open later this year.
