Ash Primary C of E VC Primary School has vacancies for School Governors.


Could you make a positive contribution to a local school?

Being a Governor is a rewarding way of making a positive, voluntary contribution to the lives of local young children by offering supportive challenge to help raise standards and monitor resources effectively within a school. Ash C of E VC Primary School is looking for new Governors to join their team. We are looking for skilled volunteers from all backgrounds. Experience of finance, human resources, education or managing premises would all be useful, but most important is the desire to help and ability to work well with others.

Governors are appointed to provide

Strong links between the school and the community it serves

An independent view

Accountability to the community for the use of resources and the standards of teaching and learning within the school

Support for the Head teacher and staff.

Governors are involved in

Staff appointments

Financial management of the school

The curriculum and pupil discipline

Community links.

We would like to hear from anyone who has:

An interest in the performance of the school

An open and enquiring mind

The confidence to ask questions and join in debate

A willingness to listen and make informed decisions

The ability to work well with others

Time commitment

The time commitment over the course of a school year typically involves the following:

  • 5 full Governor evening meetings, plus a similar number of sub-committee meetings, the time of which can be flexible

  • 3 visits to the school during the day to meet with teachers or staff

  • 2-3 training sessions. These are normally in the evening.


All Governors must be over 18 and complete safeguarding checks. Reasonable expenses can be claimed.
